Reports in today’s Daily Mirror suggest that Manchester United have earmarked Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen as the replacement for David De Gea , should the current Old Trafford number one jump ship to join Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are believed to have a number of names on their shortlist, with the 23-year-old German featuring highly. The player himself has had informal talks with United officials, stating that he is unhappy at not being the regular number one at the Camp Nou; Ter Stegen shares the goalkeeping responsibilities with Claudio Bravo, but has to be content with only starting in the cup competitions.
Liverpool are also believed to be interested as well as Borussia Dortmund, however, the player has expressed the desire not to return to Germany in the foreseeable future. With the current season drawing to a close, ter Stegen is hoping that both Premier League clubs make an official enquiry as to his availability and although United are reluctant to part with De Gea, it seems they won’t stand in his way if he decides to leave. PSG have also expressed their interest in the Spanish international.
