Manchester United sent a delegation to Naples on Monday evening, to observe striker Gonzalo Higuain in action against Atalanta.
Calciomercato.com reports that the Old Trafford club are considering a bid for the 28-year-old Argentine hot-shot and they won’t have been disappointed with what they witnessed at the Stadio San Paolo, as he notched up two more goals to take his tally for the season to 32. Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis has slapped a buy-out clause on his star player of £70 million and as yet, no club has offered enough to trigger this release clause.
After missing out on the Serie A league title to Juventus, Higuain’s future at the club is in doubt. Reports recently suggested that he was unhappy with the way the team fell away at the crucial part of the season and that he would seek pastures new in the summer. De Laurentiis has stated that until the appropriate proposal comes in for the player, he will remain part of Napoli’s plans for next season.
With two league matches to go, Higuain is now just three short of equalling the Serie A record for goals scored in one season when the top-flight has contained 20 teams. United meanwhile, are monitoring the situation with interest.
